Sara's Journey
Hello everyone,
Sorry its been a while but i have had a hectic few days! we arrived in Hue after leaving Hanoi and just chilled out on the local beach for the day. Thebeach was lovely, really quiet but we had quite alot of hassle from the local children who were trying to sell us stuff, when we declined their offers of crisps and fruits at ridiculous prices, they turned on the water works to make us feel guilty! The next day we went on a the 'Perfume River' trip which involved getting on a local 'dragon' boat and sailing down the river,we stopped at various points to get out and have a look at the tombs and temples which are situated along the river. We only decided to go to a couple of them though as you had to pay to go to each one and there were about five of them so it would have been quite expensive. The two that we went to were definately worth it and the temple on the 'hill top' was out of this world however my camera battery gave up the ghost and i couldnt take any more pictures so will have to copy Jenny's for you all to see how magnificant it was. We had lunch on the boat too which turned out to be rather a large feast! It rained all that day and night which was abit annoying but i suppose i cant complain,at least ive had a 'few days' of sun, ha ha!
We then left the next day to go to Hoi An which was only a four hour bus ride away which was a relief! Hoi An is world renowned for its tailor shops where you literally go into the shop (and there are about 200 of them to chose from!) pick out what style of clothes you want made fromvarious books and magazines and also choose the material and they measure you up and in a couple of days, hey presto, you have a tailor made outfit for the equivilant of about 10 pound! The quality of the clothes and the stiching is amazing too! Its a shoppers paradise! Butyou have to be careful as its so easy to spend a fortune as its so cheap, jen and i had a few things made and both spent about 80-100 pound each but one girl we meet had spent about 300 pound and then had to spend another 100 pound to send it home. That's the only draw back about back packing, you cant buy much but i suppose thats a good thing! The experience of being measured up and having clothes hand made to fit you exactly is certainly something to remember as i dont think i would beable to afford it in England!
On a lower note though,i had about 85 pound stolen from my wallet in Hoi An which put a downer on things but i suppose im going to have to be more vigilant in future. We have meet some people from Wales and have spent the last few weeks bumping into them, they were staying in our hotel in Hoi An (which was absolute luxury for the money!) so we ended upahving a party in our hotel room after a night out on the town. We all ended up jumping in the swimming pool at about 4 am and got a severe telling off from hotel staff and fellow residents for making so much noise, oops! It was funny though!
We didnt really do much else in Hoi An apart from spend quite alot of time in the clothes shops (surprise, surpise!) for re-fittings etc but we did go to the beach one day and ended up getting invited to a beach party which consisted of the Vietnamese Army! It was certainly an experience, lots of strange food and lots of Viatnamese beer, he he! We then had to cycle the bikes home that we had hired which was rather a challenge!
We are now in Nha Trang which was another 12hour bus journey from Hoi An. Its just like a mini Ibiza here with lots of emphasis on partying, sounds like my kind of place! We have spent the day on the beach (again!) but are thinking of doing some more diving as its meant to be good here so will let you know how it goes! Im off now to get ready for our night out on the town! (Uh oh!)
Love Sara
