Good Morning Vietnam! Sorry but i just had to say it! Well as you can probably guess we are now in Vietnam. We left Laos and let ourselves in for the coach journey from hell! We were on the damm thing for 24 hours, it was crazy! Not only was 24 hour coach journey bad enough but it was a local bus that was stacked to the brim with bags of rice, boxes of mangos and everything else you can imagine! The driver also seemed to enjoy torturing us even more by plaing some awful asian music at full blast till the early hours of the morning so all in all i got about 1 hours sleep, aarrggh! We finally arrived in Hanoi (north Vietnam) only to face another problem. There was a minibus there waiting to take people to the 'Old Quater' where all the back packers stay which was about a 15 minute drive from the bus station however there wasnt enough room for us and another girl so we were told a taxi would take us for 1$. So we got in and then drove round and round in circles until we finally came to where we wanted to go, the taxi driver said he didnt know where to go but magically 'remembered' where it was! He then asked for about triple the amount and when we said we didnt have it he wouldnt let us get our bags out of the car boot! We had a great big argument with him and i was nearly in tears as he said we had to go the police station with him but luckily a really friendly vietamese person spoke English and lent us the money to pay him, the taxi driver then hit the girl who was with us as he drove off! It was a nightmare start to our trip in Vietnam! Anyway after all that we got a good nights sleep and have visited two museums today and saw the 'pickled' body of the Vietnamese leader, Ho Chi Minh. It was a really eerie experience as he has been dead for about 30 + years but looks like he is just asleep! The museums were also interesting , one was about vietnamese literature and the other was a was museum. We also went to see a water puppet show tonight which was an experience! We are going on a boat trip to Halong Bay tomorrow which is preserved as a site of natural beauty so will hopefully get some good pictures! Im off to bed now so good night! Love Sara xxxxx
