Sara's Journey
Hi guys!
Well, i cant believe that im actually saying this but this is probably going to be my last journal entry as i fly home on Saturday evening! How mad, the last four months has absolutely flown by, it only seems like yesterday that i was waving goodbye to mum and dad at the airport. I have had the most amazing time of my life and i definately feel that i am a better person because of it, (at least i hope!). I have seen so many different cultures and ways of life since travelling and it has really opened my eyes. I have realised, especially after travelling around South East Asia, how previlledged i have been to experience and witness how so many other cultures live, i certainly hope that i am a little more laid back and broad minded after this experience!
Anyway enough of the chit chat! We have spent the last few days in Queenstown which is the adventure capital of New Zealand. The ski-ing and snow boarding scene here is massive. The whole town is geared up for it with snow shops galore! The actual town is situated on a lake which is surrounded by stunning mountains so the scenary is amazing. We went out to a few pubs and clubs the first night here, and we didnt get in untill 5pm, again! There is also a big drinking scene in Queenstown as you can probably gather! Oh and i could i forgot, before we went out drinking, Jenny and I treated ourselves to a Lamb dinner! Well, you cant visit New Zealand without sampling their most famous export! And yes, it was delicious!
The next day was wasted a little and i do feel a little ashamed that i spent the day in bed seeing as i only had a week in New Zealand and the place is absoultely gorgeous, BUT i did have the hangover from hell!
As it was Jenny's and mine last day together we decided to try and fit a few activities in. We went up in the cable car which allowed us to see just how beautiful Queenstown is, the views were spectacular. Once at the top, we had a coffee in the restaurant whilst admiring the views. Then the fun began! We decided to try out 'Luging'. For those of you that have never heard of it before (join the club!), it involves getting in a small go-kart that has nothing but a brake, and cruising down the mounatin on a rather slippery track! We were right at the top of a mountain and had to be taken to the top of the track via a ski-lift so the track was a 'little' steep! The speeds we were going at was quite scary! I think i applied the brake for the majority of my journey for fear of vearing off the track and down the mountain side!
After our 'luging' experience we decided to try out something even more ridiculous! PARAGLIDING!!!
To put it bluntly, i was s*** scared! We had to climb to the top of a mountain (which was bloody difficult!) and then our instructors stapped us in the harness. The next minute, he was attaching an enoumous parachute to our backs and then before i could say 'what the hell am i doing?!!!' i was beeing to told to run! We literally ran off the mountain top which was 2000 feet above sea level and then we were flying! What a feeling! I have never felt anything like it, i think its the nearest thing to flying. the feeling of weightlessness you experience is incredible, and the views across the Alps took my breath away. It was a fantastic experience and a perfect way to end the trip of a life time.
Jenny and i went our seperate ways this morning as she is going to be away untill mid August. It was rather sad as we have been through so much together over the last four months. I am now in Auckland on the north Island and i am staying with some friends we meet in Asia for tonight before starting my journey home tomorrow evening!
I hope you have all enjoyed my journey and thanks for all your messages.
Au-revior my friends!
Love Sara
