We had a little bit of a slow start to the day but once we got going we headed towards Mount Lofty. I was surprised how close it was to Echunga, just one stop on the freeway.
We parked up in the Mount Lofty car park and walked up to the summit to see amazing views of Adelaide and the surrounding areas. Just like when I went to New York it has one of those maps where you can pick out significant landmarks across the horizon but I think it as a bit too overcast to see some of the things on the map, such as Kangaroo island lol.
We then decided that we would take a walk down to Cleland wildlife Park. This was a nice gentle down hill walk through some woodland. I will admit that I was having a little bit of a chuckle at the people walking up the hill towards the summit, some of them looked half dead and then of course you came across the one guy who could be a dead ringer for the Hulk if he was green just casually strolling up the hill lol.
Cleland wildlife park was about a 3km walk away and we got there just after lunchtime. The queue was still rather large to get in though as they only had one person on the desk and of course with it being a long weekend it meant that everyone and their kids were coming here today. It wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be and you could buy some food to feed the animals with too which I thought was nice. The park is quite open spaced with some animals just roaming freely around outside whereas others were kept in smaller enclosures such as the Tasmanian devil. The first little creature we came across looked like a giant rat but was so cute! They are quite tame and they let you stroke them, mainly I think because they know you have a bag of food as they can hear the rustling! We carried on and walked through the bird aviary and Kira told me that most of the birds bite so I was a bit hesitant about feeding them at this point.
There were kangaroos everywhere. All different breeds from all over Australia, grey, red, ones from kangaroo Island, wallabies etc. The best thing was you can hand feed them too! I got really close to one which was so big that if he'd gotten angry he could almost certainly knock a man over and possibly kill him too. However, there was nothing to fear, this kangaroo was very old so there was no chance of sudden movements lol.
The best part of the day was going to the Koala enclosure and getting to get up close and touch one of them. I had my picture taken with a 12yr old female Koala along with Kira. Andrew had gone walking round the park as he'd been working on Magnetic Island and was used to the Koalas so it wasn't too interesting for him. We carried on walking and Kira and I sat and watched Andrew chase a couple of Emu around the enclosure trying to get a close up picture of them, think it was the funniest part of the day so far lol.
Then came the inevitable hike back up to the summit of Mount Lofty where we had left the car. It seemed so funny to laugh at those walkers earlier till we had to do it ourselves. The view however from the top was amazing. Just getting to see the sunset over all of Adelaide. It got a little cold but Kira and I were having fun trying to take 'selfies' on top of the monument before we all bundled back into the car for the journey back to Echunga.
This is going to be my last excursion with people from the farm as Bea and I leave here next week to carry on travelling around Australia.
