I woke up a little later than planned which meant that getting tickets for the Skybridge was yet again out for today (whoops!) which didn't matter too much since it's Monday and it's closed to the public lol.
Instead I grabbed a free walking map which is available at the bus station and began walking round the city. I went to the Masjid Negara Mosque (just the outside as I had no head scarf to go inside) and thought it was a beautiful white building set over the river. I then went over to the Kuala Lumpur Gallery (which is free) and saw the history of Kuala Lumpur and how it was developed before going into the park next door and seeing some sort of military dressage with horses. It was a little strange, a marching band and a whole team of men dressed in full uniform parading across the grounds. Similar to the Horse Guards in the UK I imagine. Afterwards I thought I would go and take a walk through the park and down to the Orchid garden and Bird Park. I made it to the Bird Park and it cost 48 Ringgit to get in! Talk about inflation! Anyway, it was advertised as the worlds largest free flying bird park. Which basically meant that it had a massive enclosed area outside but the birds were allowed to freely fly about inside.
I saw some amazing species and got really close to the Peacocks and a variety of parrots flying round. I saw the biggest Ostrich (which just looked annoyed the entire time) and thought to slowly back off and walk the other way! There is a really nice waterfall there too which has a flamingo park. I was pleased with the bird park...until...I went into the gallery. They showed you how birds are incubated and there were some nice little chicks in there, then you walk into the next room and it shows you how to be your own taxidermist...
The room was full of birds which we had just seen outside, stuffed and mounted! My chin hit the floor! I promptly left after that and began walking through the park again. I think I took a wrong turn and ended up missing the Orchid park. However, I did make it to the National Mosque which is also very nice. A while later after I had been using the useless map from the bus station I eventually found my way to the Central market. Very nice and not too tacky like the one in Phnom Penh. After lunch I went back to the hostel and arranged my pick up from Kudat in a couple days time.
Later on I went back to the KLCC and oh my god...I was amazed at how many designer shops there are in one shopping centre. It would either be a shopaholics worst nightmare or dream come true...whichever etc. I bought a couple of things to take with me to Kudat. (Haha Matt - they had Dominos as well as Jenga!)
Tomorrow sees me flying to KK from KL and spending a week over on Borneo. Bags packed, ticket printed, rough idea on how to get to the airport. However...why is it that E-tickets never tell you which ruddy terminal you have to go to?!
This picture was taken outside of the KL gallery.
