I did practically nothing the day I left KL as I didn't really have time to go walking around the city and get to the airport in time. Travel to the airport was good, it started to rain before I set off and I was worried I would need to get a taxi due to the rain but there was a gap and I went for it.
Everything is much more compact than the maps make out, the train station was just around the corner and it had a very efficient ticket counter and speedy process to get onto the train. I don't know why but for some reason I never took advantage of booking my bags in with Malaysia airlines at the train station instead of hauling them to the airport myself. Oh well guess I like hard work! The train was also very speedy and I was glad of the price too! KL international airport is massive and also slightly clinical. There are however, absolutely NO restaurants after the security gate, however you can buy a Rolex or a bar of chocolate which costs the same as a Rolex *laugh*.
The flight over was good after I had gotten over the shock that my bag was now 17kg when I think it was 12kg when I left the UK...can't quite remember the exact weight but it was heavy! At the other end I think I must have been the only person to book an airport taxi and get the mental driver who didn't know where he was going! We arrived at the hostel and it was a little concerning that as I was about to check in there were two other people leaving because they said the place was filthy...Ho hum I'm not changing.
After a good night sleep I pretty much dawdled round KK, there were a few things I would have liked to have done like some diving or going to their Aquarium park where you can touch Sharks etc but will have to wait another time! Off to Kudat tomorrow to spend a few days at Tampat Do Aman (Look on Trip Advisor lol) and chill out for a bit. Got really lazy and booked a flight to Singapore from KL instead of having to take the bus. Well...it's going to cost a whopping 25 pounds and take an hour to get there versus the 6 hours by bus...a no brainer! Take the plane! Plus I will meet Ryan at the airport about the same time his flight gets in from Perth so we can get lost in Singapore together (his words!).
The picture is of the Atkinson clock tower in KK just down the road from where I was staying.
