The last couple of days in Sihanoukville have been varied but mainly a case for lazing about and doing nothing. The rain followed for a couple of days right after I arrived which it was nice to chill when it wasn't so hot outside. My only peeve at the moment is those damn frogs. When it rains quite heavily, all the frogs come out and start making noise, it is so loud that when we first heard it we thought it was the cows making noise!
I woke and realised that today was exactly one year since Clare and Ben got married and it got me thinking about their wedding day and how beautiful she was walking down the aisle. It also got me thinking about my mum and worrying if she was alright today as it happens to be 7 years since my Nan passed away. I spent most of today trying to read a book, looking slightly old fashioned when I looked up and almost everyone else seemed to have some sort of Kindle or Tablet...it made me think more than ever that I need to get another computer device of some kind.
I think everyone was resting up today for the carnage that was to ensue this evening. During low season on Otres Beach each guest house occasionally holds a themed party and other guest houses are encouraged to bring their guests along for the night. Tonight, we went to The Sunshine Cafe for their Mexican themed night. Dress code was green, red and white and you got a free shot if you came sporting a moustache. Slightly cheating for anyone who actually had a real one but I knew my eye liner would come in handy! I actually looked quite nice and feminine for a change before I drew on a really dodgy black moustache! I'd also gotten ready really early so to have a drink in the bar with Paul and Charlotte and people kept looking at me, I can't remember how many times I had to explain why I had a giant moustache. I had sort of adopted a 'Little Britain' style of humour which seemed to crack everyone up. I took a fan with me and fanned myself like a 'lady' and said in the most feminine voice ' yes I would love a drink' before revealing my tash and saying 'mines a pint of lager' in a really rough mans voice. This was me sober...as Danielle always said...anyone who meets me seems to have a good night as I make people laugh with my randomness!
The night was a great success and also very cheap! I think I took about $10 with me and came back with just under $6...no idea how that happened! I swang from a rope swing onto the beach, drank Tequila slammers, danced the night away and drew a moustache on anyone who didn't have one! At some point I thought it would be a good idea to go into the sea...(I wasn't alone before anyone starts, so the risk of drowning was slightly lower...). I think I ended up dragging Jason into the sea and a few other people promptly followed. It was nice and peaceful swimming with the Phosphorous and I think if I hadn't swallowed half the ocean I would have stayed in there longer.
I have no idea what time I got back as I took to not wearing a watch a few days ago but it was definitely after 2 am. I was so tired but knew I would never sleep more than 3 hours after drinking (at home know this is true). Sihanoukville is turning out to be another place I really like and am struggling to leave. If I don't book a bus in the next couple days I might have to compromise on what else I can see in Cambodia as I won't fit it all in before I run out of visa!
The picture is of me and Charlotte drinking our free Tequila at the bar. Just look at those lovely feminine moustaches!
