Executive Summary - Cappadocia
-
Saw: Fairy chimneys (LOTS of fairy chimneys), a 6 level 20,000 people capacity underground city, ancient churches in caves, Goreme Open Air Museum, rose valley, love valley (refer Turkish Boyfriend story), a really bad presentation on onyx, a really good presentation on ceramics, silk production lesson #2, a really good presentation on carpets followed by a sales pitch to buy them
-
Did: rode a horse, sold juice and postcards to French people, learned to drive a scooter (just), got stuck in the rain, played backgammon, drank good Cappadocian wine with new friends, went for a hike, drank bad Cappadocian wine with "Fatih the Turkish Boyfriend", rode in a hot air balloon, made something that started out phallic and ended up vase-like on a pottery kick wheel
-
Ate/Drank: Gozleme (pancakes with cheese), lentil soup, Turkish omelet, stew cooked in a clay pot, standard Turkish breakfast (egg, cucumber, tomato, cheese, bread), rice pudding, 'champagne' at the end of the balloon ride, good Cappadocian wine, bad Cappadocian wine, Turkish tea, apple tea
-
Favourite part about Cappadocia: Too many! My completely crazy arrival day and the memories that still amuse me, seeing the weird wild beauty of the landscape in a balloon, the kindness of the people and strangely un-creepy and seemingly genuine flirtatiousness of the men
-
Least favourite part about Cappadocia: Too cheesy to say 'leaving it'? It's probably the one place thus far (besides Kruger in South Africa!) that I wish I had a few more days to explore.
-
Life-altering revelation which contributes to search for universal truth: You just gotta go with it and leave the laundry till later!
-
Current career thought: As much as I liked Cappadocia, I will not be joining one of the several offers to work in tourism/sales/hospitality and taking up the many offers by proprietors of said industries to 'stay at my place'.
