Hi again everyone
We've managed to catch up on the blog again as we have stopped partying and had to stay in for a night!
We left Phuket and again had ANOTHER coach journey across Thailand and then a boat took us to Ko Phagnan. On the way we tried frantically to phone for accomodataion in Phagnan as everyone we spoke to was heading for this small island for the legendary party on the beach ''The full moon party".
Obviously everyone else owned the same bible as everywhere we tried to phone was full, against our better judgement we decided to book up with Johnny number two!!! The accomodation was four times over our budget but we decided to go for it as everyone had advised us to book somewhere really safe as full moon time can be quite dodgy, (robbed, raped and pilaged kept coming up in the conversation) so thats how we justified blowing the budget AGAIN!!!!! This seems to be getting a regular habit, even carol (vikki) has lost track!!
As we got off the boat we were still feeling very sceptical about where we would end up and what we would be sleeping in. After getting mobbed by people trying to sell us stuff, we eventually found our taxi man (aka fat man scoop)- phew, so far so good.
We thought it had all gone wrong when he drove us up a long dirt track in the back of beyond, but someone was smilling down on us that day! The resort was brand spanking new, with air con (first time so far), tv (repeating BBC world news all... day). It had been a long day and Lisa and Vik decided a bottle of sang som was in order. The day got even better when we met our next door neighbours and they were not only english but also northern yeah!!
The next morning we couldnt believe our luck, we opened our patio doors to a swimming pool and ten feet away the beach- definitely not usuall backpackers lifestyle!!
We had our sensible heads on and made our way to Haad Riin in the day light to check it out before the party began, we found everyone was already in the party spirit, the beach was looking lively two days prior to party, any excuse!
We headed back to the resort and decided to make good use of the pool, got talking to the neigbours again and straight away started to take the mick in true northern style. We were making them jealous with our travelling tales as they were only on holiday before meeting up with their girlfriends, what a great bunch of lads had a really good laugh with them. Whilst drinking cocktails and watching the sun go down we all decided to book a jeep for the next day.
The island jeep tour- we gave in to the male ego and let the leeds boys drive (nothing to do with the fact that we could sunbathe in the back of the pick up truck he he). We headed for the national park and the famous waterfalls, after treking and climbing up the mountain we discovered the waterfall was no more than a trickle due to it not being monsoon season- oh well it was good exercise and the scenery was amazing!!!!
After climbing millions of steps we saw yet another golden bhudda...... yawn yawn, we are now on bhudda overload, but the leeds boys were impressed as it was their first sight of one. We all set off in the jeep again and stumbled across malibu beach the most beautiful place we have come across to date, after a dip in the clear water and a swing in the hammocks the sea breeze went to vikki's head and she was determined to have a bash at the jeep driving. The leeds lads seemed quietly impressed as she manvered around the mountain tops better than Jeremy clarkson. Steph took a turn after lunch as everyone else was too full and she has been living on fruit salad (strict rule was implied that sarah and lisa were not to drive after reliving their numerous accidents the night before).
That night we got dolled up ready for the full moon party! Carol was back on form and stashed bottles of vodka in our bags (we had to save money somehow!!). Luckily steph was playing mum and stayed on red bull as we had already done one bottle before leaving the appartment. The full moon party was exactly what we had expected- absolutely mad, thousands of people partying on the beach, great music, fireworks and some right states (including us at the end of the night). The vodka buckets soon took its toll as lisa must of thought she was cinderella as she was home by midnight, light weight! (she is still getting stick now). The rest of us stuck it out until sunrise, dancing in the sea must of kept us going!
As you can imagine the next day didnt consist of much, a lovely dutch guy kept us entertained telling us tales and lots of advice. We packed up and shipped out and left the luxury behind, aghh what will we do without aircon!!! We said goodbye to the leeds lads as they weren't on a shoe string and headed for the more expensive resort in Koh Samui.
Koh Samui -lamai- it was even more evident that the budget was now back on track as we were again back to squaller! Walls made of bamboo and hose pipes, the worst part came alive at night. Vikki and steph were kept awake all night scared senseless hearing scratching and urinating above their head, it came clear in the morning when a family of cute kittens, followed by mum dad grandma grandad and numerous other relatives popped out. This is when we decided to get out for the day and explore on our own in another jeep!
Think vikki has found her self a new job as she was the designated driver for the day.Its only a small island and we managed to see every nook and cranny as it only takes an hour to drive around the perimeter of the whole island. The first stop was the aquarium, tiger show/bird show (steph has a bird phobia so you can tell this part of the show was a bit of a suprise!). Amy we thought of you and little birdy, think you could of picked up some new tricks! Atfer another bhudda we decided to retire home luckily in one piece, well done vik!!
We lasted two night in the cat ridden huts and decided to head for Chewang for a bit more upmarket and some night life as all that lamai had to offer was slezzey lady bars!
Ko Samui - Chewamg- Hooray back in concrete walls, straight on beach again cocktail in hand!!! Fantastic laid back feel to this place, full of young travellers! Couldnt believe it when we discovered leeds lads next door, so another night on the tiles (hard life!!!)
Another hangover, another pool gatecrashed, but what a small world. We sat next to some guys on sunbeds and they straight away asked if we were from stoke (didnt realise it was that obvious- dam) it turned out to be one of lisas good mates from school- jimmy. A quick hello and goodbye as he was waiting for taxi to leave.
Koh Toa- we found a little bit of paradise in this small island, lots of backpackers and really chilled atmosphere, place full of divers. We thoroughly soacked up all we could in the two days we had there, we all loved it and wished we could of stayed longer but unfortunately our visas had run out boo hoo!!!
Heading for Cambodia now, a little apprehensive (well actually lisa and vik are s***ing themselves) but we have meet lots of backpackers that say its fantastic!!!
Bye for now, as always missing you all (not the weather by the sounds of it).
