Sarah and Nicola Matthews' Travels
G'Day!
Made it safe and sound to Oz as you might have guessed!
Melbourne is a really nice city although it is very windy and quite cold!
We have done lots of sight seeing in the last few days including going up the Rialto towers where we got a gorgeous view over the city as the sun went down.
We also had a nice wonder around St Kilda which is the beach side suburb of Melbourne. We took a walk on the pier and nearly blew off it but there were really gorgeous views so it was worth it!
Yesterday we took a trip up the Great Ocean Road. It was a very long day as we were picked up a 8 in the morn and didnt get back til 9.30 pm but it was a really good day.
We stopped off first at an Aboriginal heritage centre which was really interesting. The guide at the centre played some didgeridoo for us and he was really amazing at it. I decided not to embarass myself by having a go though!
The drive along the Great Ocean road was really stunning and because it was a quite a rough day the waves were massive so it was really fun to watch the surfers.
We took a quick stop off the road to go up a little wooded road where there were loads of Koalas sleeping in trees. They are so cute!! Aparently they sleep for 20 hrs a day but we were lucky to see one that was really low in the tree and was chomping away on gum leaves. I had to hold myself back from stealing one - they are just like little teddy bears!!
We then stopped to see the twelve apostles which are stacks of rocks in the water. They looked really cool but I have never been so wind swept in my life! The wind was the strongest i have ever felt - Nik and Caroline likened it to the strength of wind on their sky dive!! It would be fair to say that my hair was doing a good Marge out of the Simpsons impression by the end but it was worth it.
We then went to see London Bridge which is another stack of rocks out to sea which used to resemble London Bridge but then part of it fell in the sea. Now it just looks like a bridge but it was cool nonetheless!
When we got back we just relaxed and had a few drinks in the hostel bar. There is live music in the bar every night which is good. Last night the band was composed of two ex Neighbours stars! Caroline and Nik didn't recognise them but such is the breadth of my Neighbours knowledge that I was impressed by such a close brush with these z list stars!!
Today we just had another wonder round the city and went to the Melbourne museum. There were loads of interesting things in the museum. One random inclusion was the original Robinson family kitchen from Neighbours. We had the obligatory pics in it of course!!
Melbourne is definitely the place to come if you have had a mis spent youth like myself and watched far too much neighbours!! Tomorrow we have our official Ramsey street tour and Monday night we have our Neighbours theme night with quizes and guest appearances by cast members! I know i'm tragic but it just has to be done!!!
