Today is New Years Eve. After much discussion about what we would do today we decided to just headed down around lunch time and see where we could get a spot. There's so much speculation before the day meaning people at our hostel got up at 6am to get a spot crazy!!! Met Craig and Liana around midday and headed to get some picnic food. Ash and I got some alcohol too although you can't take it in we decided to disguise it in a lemonade bottle. Went for lunch and then chose a spot at Dawes Park. This was right next the harbour bridge with a view of the opera house. Pretty amazing location i would say. We didn't get there till around 3pm and it wasn't that busy. We could leave the site until 8pm so left the others with our stuff and me and ash headed to a bar for a bit haha!! When we got back there was a stage set up right in front of us. Also a ford mustang planted right on the harbour edge. A woman was presenting apparently she's famous in Australia. A film crew came around and wanted to interview me and ash. Massive cringe!! It was for ford mustang as it was the first time it had been brought to Australia. They asked us a few questions about the venue and what we thought of the car. We just said it was nice hahah! Hope we don't have to see that again!
Later on bands starting playing. Milky Chance who I love were on the stage right in front of us. Pretty lucky spot we chose!!! We also got searched they took the 2 cider cans off us but not the lemonade bottle, this was Ashs secret ploy!! Loads of people had their alcohol confiscated!! Once the bands on the stage near us had finished they then projected the other stage. Temper Trap were headlining. It was a really good atmosphere everyone dancing around and having a good time. Some people were sleeping on the grass. Can't hack the late night!
The fireworks were pretty incredible, they had some at 9pm but these were just the warm up. The midnight were 100x better. There were fireworks coming out of the bridge, the opera house, darling harbour and the middle of the harbour. The bridge kept shooting out different fireworks at the finale it had a gold fountain flowing out of it. Pretty spectacular!
Leaving the fireworks was actually pretty fun, all the road were closed so thousands of people were walking down the streets. I've never seen anything like it. We didn't attempt a bar as the queues were insane instead just hung out at the hostel.
Bondi beach again on New Years days. Craig and Ash hired some surf boards, they waves were too big fore me though. They really struggled to even get on the waves. It was amusing for us to watch from the shore! I again attempted to swim in it but I must admit its quite scary.
Our last day in Sydney today (well until the end of jan). We have loved our time here, such a cool city. Will miss out hostel too it's really friendly. Had a quieter day, checked out some of the sales and wandered around the city. Bumped into a girl that I met in Thailand which was funny, small world! Spent the evening in Darling Harbour. Watched the street entertainers which were so good tonight can be a bit hit and miss. We love looking around Darling Harbour.
Up early for our flight to Cairns :)
