Byron Bay - NSW
3298 KM19 September 2011
As Sam had driven heroically through the night at 5.30am it was my turn... we drove right up to Byron Bays famous light house and parked up.Almost in darkness we walked to the base of the lighthouse and watched the sun rise.Jaw dropping.Although a little cloudy the sun's rays cut through the clouds and made it all the more dramatic. We sat and watched until the sun was high in the sky. Then we ran back to the van, drove into the town and had a nap!We spent the day mooching around the shops, trying to book our Bula Pass for Fiji and sunbathing.I managed to find the boomerang that was perfect for Dad's present and a few other little bits and pieces. The Bula pass was proving to be a bit of a struggle, but eventually we booked it and paid for half of it; we would pay the other half in Sydney.
We drove to the beach near the lighthouse and watched the surfers catching waves whilst devouring the best pack of crisps ever - TWISTIES! Almost like a nik-nak but chicken and fatter.Amazing.
Before we knew it we were heating soup in our kitchen and back on the road.... my time for the night drive.I lasted a fair while, but I'm not as good at staying awake as Sam! On the drive we saw tooo many kangaroos at the side of the road waiting to cross, we feared this could have been the night one totaled our van.... we were lucky. We did stop to let a Echidna cross the road!We parked in a sufficient lay by before crashing out - hard.
