Blue Mountains - NSW
4594 KM24 & 25 September 2011
After an exhilarating 4.5 hour drive conducted by myself we arrived at the Blue Mountains. The views at Govetts Leap were phenomenal. The weather was amazing, but we decided we deserved some rest bite so drove down into the valleys to find a free campsite. The evening was fun filled, Sam got the much needed hair cut he had been talking about since Thailand, I managed to burn my leg on the gas stove and we got so cheese and wine drunk we slept like small children.Despite the hillbillies shrieking and making doughnuts in the dirt with their trucks.Interesting.. We had a secret mission established to retrieve our chairs and awning from the outside, we couldn't risk having them stolen or set on fire!! Sam conducted the outside mission with precision while I assisted with reassuring whispers from inside.....
We woke up to mist.Absolutely devastated when we arrived at Echo Point to view the famous Three Sisters all we could see was a bright white screen. We toyed with the idea of going to Sydney and coming up the day later, but the mist was unlikely to clear. We decided to stay and simply pray the mist would clear. We walked from Echo Point down 900 odd extremely steep steps, along the base of the valley and back up the hardest most challenging 940 steps! It was pain like no other. But we did it.And we saw some views, a waterfall and many beautiful birds! But we were hugely disappointed and kicking ourselves for the relaxing evening we had had the night before. We treated ourselves to some warm chips before hitting the road... Sydney here we come. Neither of us could quite believe we were going to Sydney; the end goal had always seemed so far, unobtainable and almost a fantasy.A sadness encroached the van as we realized we were going to have to return it in the next couple of days.Australia was coming to a close.Phase 6 was almost over.
