This is a working gold mine. It is deeper than any opencast mining I have seen in Northumberland.
We are now about to go exploring the Coromandel Peninisular so may not be in contact until Sunday.

On to Waihi. We spend a night on a remote site by a river then did a gorge walk. It is the gold mining area of NZ. I wasn't aware gold is mined here and still is. This is us coming out of a 1km tunnel which was used by rail. The walk was splendid.
