We had two possible routes north from Mt Cook. We opted for Arthur's Pass which as you might expect had more exciting scenery.
This is one of the scenic railway routes as is one near Dunedin. We did not do either. Trying to do everything is impossible. We are saving our train ride for Canada.
We did a walk in Arthur's Pass up to this waterfall.
Going this way meant we missed seeing Franz Joseph and Fox Glaciers.
