Vietnam is fantastic!! If you're planning a holiday, come here!! Its got everything - the buzz of the city, beaches, shopping, mountains, and still the character of Asia! Hanoi was chaotic and crazy - so much fun! There are hundreds of motorbikes on each road, coming from all directions - crossing was a challenge! Its best to just step out into the oncoming motorbikes, cross your fingers, and keep walking! We're amazed we haven't been killed, especially as they drive on the right hand side! We saw quite a lot of the city, and got our first motorbike taxi! They're everywhere and shout 'oi' and wave frantically at you, even when they're right in front of you! It was great fun, we even forgot we weren't wearing helmets, and they've become a regular feature in our Vietnamese travels! We also went to a water puppet show!!! Its as you would imagine! Very amusing, and we didn't understand it, but it was really clever and we had a fun evening! We then did a 2 day boat trip sailing around Ha Long Bay, north of Hanoi. There are 1969 islands (this is the only fact we remember!!), and it was beautiful. The weather wasn't great but it was still hot, and we got to swim in the sea off the boat which was great!! Until we realised there were massive jelly fish in the water as well! Next we travelled to Hoi An, and the overnight bus was fantastic! We couldn't believe it! We didn't have to fight for our seats and even had aircon! However, it turned out one seat again didn't recline and the aircon didn't switch off! But still, a huge improvement and we were happy! Hoi An is again fantastic! We stayed in the nicest hotel ever, with a balcony, double bed EACH, a bath and a swimming pool, for just $6!! Total Bargain!!! Even though we didn't plan to get many clothes made, its amazing how carried away you can get!!! Its all so cheap, quick, and really good quality. For 100 pounds between us we got 2 suits, 2 pairs of jeans, 3 pairs of trousers, 4 skirts, 3 tops, 2 dresses, all made to fit us perfectly!!! We are not sure where all this is going to go yet...but its all so pretty and great! When we weren't being measured and choosing material, we were at the beach which was stunning! The water was clear, the sand perfect, and it was lined with palm trees! We sat under bamboo thatched umbrellas sipping fresh fruit shakes - paradise! Now we are in Nha Trang which is a beach and party town - we are fitting in nicely! We spent the day at the beach, although we are a little burnt from yesterday so had to stay in the shade (don't laugh!) but we are hoping tomorrow that will all change (fingers crossed!!!). Got a night out planned tonight wearing our new clothes and making the most of all the happy hours! Will put more pics on soon!
