Sarah's and Becky's Travels...!
This week has been absolutely crazy so this may be a long message! We cannot believe how much we have done and how amazing thailand is!
Firstly, our last horror story when leaving India...after realising that the bus that was meant to go to the airport was not going to turn up (even after we had confirmed it with the people at the bus station) we flagged down a taxi and it turned out he was the craziest driver ever! An absolute psycho whose steering wheel didnt really have much effect so he was driving in cartoon style! It made our hired driver seem like the best driver in the world...we were honestly so relieved when we got to the aiport alive!
Then...Shock Horror...we found out we\'d missed our flight!!!! This is not as stupid as it sounds...but close!! Our flight was at half past midnight on the 4th....we turned up at the airport 10pm on the 4th!! nearly 24 hours late!!!! Thank god they changed our flight with no problems and we didn\'t have to stay longer in india, or pay anything extra! Lesson learnt!!
We arrived in Bangkok and it was like any other big city...although a big change from India and doesn\'t have as much character and it is very hot and humid - everyone is all sweaty!!!! We made our way to Kao Sahn Road (the backpacker capital) which is full of backpackers, food and clothes stalls and bars and literally never stops! Didnt sleep very well those nights!!
We then went on the best day tour ever..it was to see the floating markets and go to the tiger temple! The floating markets were really fascinating and we went on a boat and got sold various foods and tacky souvenirs and it was good, but it has been totally taken over by tourists - there are more tourist boats than thai which is a shame.
Then we went to a war museum and saw the Kwai River and Bridge which was quite interesting, but we just wanted to go and see the tigers!!
Eventually we got to the tiger temple....Absolutely incredible!!!! We got to stroke, sit next to and have photos taken with big, fully grown, beautiful, real life, uncaged tigers!!!!!!! It was the most amazing experience and we have about 50 photos each to prove it..you\'ll get to see some soon!!!
We are now in the north in Chiang Mai which is thailands second largest city. We did a 3 day trekking tour through the jungle and mountains which was amazing but the trekking sucked!! It was a lot more walking than we thought it was going to be and it was soo hard and about 40 degrees!!
But it was beautiful and we had a lot of fun. We slept in bamboo huts over looking the river, swam in waterfalls, rode elephants (very bumpy and a little scary when they went close to the cliff edge!), went white water rafting and bamboo rafting (basically going down the river standing on some bamboo!). It was great! When we got back it was Thai New Years Eve and we got invited to the tour people\'s celebrations so we had a BBQ and drank beer and rice wine (god knows!) with them and sung karaoke! Everyone is so friendly! We didnt even get asked to pay!! We went out afterwards and sampled thai rum...which just happened to come in a bucket with a little coke and red bull!! A good night had by all!
Now it is Thai New Year (2050!) This is pretty much a 3 day water fight involving everyone whether you like it or not and it is so much fun! Everyone is armed with buckets and water guns and throws manky river water at everyone and anyone!! We joined in and had such a laugh!
Tomorrow we are heading up to the border to go to Laos which includes a 2 day river journey! Wish us luck!!
Love Sarah and Bec
