Sarah's and Becky's Travels...!
They say you either love or hate India... we feel a little bit of both! This week has been mad and hard work, the hassle is definitely getting to us now. Its hard when every single person you encounter is after money and it feels like you can't trust a soul. But aside from this, we are still having fun!! And we're still alive!!
After leaving Rishikesh, which we loved, we went to Haridwar, a pilgram town, and watched a riverside worship ceremony at sunset, where we were invited to sit in the middle of hundreds of Indians!! People put flowers and candles into the river as offerings to their God, and it was really awesome to see as their faith is so strong.
We then survived our first train journey and started our tour with our dodgy driver! First stop was Agra to see the beautiful, magical and amazing Taj Mahal! We liked it! We also stayed in the most amazing hotel with a revolving restaurant overlooking the Taj!! At the time we thought our luck was in and all our hotels would be like this! Hmmm.....!
Next stop was Ranthambore, to see a tiger on safari! After getting up at the usual 5am that we've grown accustomed to, we realised the safari was crap! No tigers for us. Our Indian safari consisted of deer and birds!! Oh, and the monkeys that roam the street everywhere! However, the hotel did have a lovely pool!
After another long drive to Jaipur, we were again thankful to be alive, having survived the journey after playing chicken with huge trucks along a bumpy strip of tarmac speeding towards us! In Jaipur - the famous pink city thats actually more orange!!! - we did some shopping, saw a fort and the Hawa Mahal - we don't know either!! But it was pretty! Our hotel was still quite nice, but not on the same level as the one at the Taj. After arriving back one evening though a major muslim ceremony was going on...which again was great to see, but a little scary as we were the only females in the whole place!!!
We then went to Pushkar, one of the two places we'd recommend people to visit!! Here we did a spot more shopping and then went horse-riding through the desert! And it was awesome!!!! Great scenery, fantastic horses, and loads of cantering! Definitely a highlight. Bruised bums the next day though!!
Now we're in Jaisalmer, the golden city. And it is!! The city's smack bang in the middle of the desert and there's a huge fort in the middle which is just like a giant sandcastle! Yesterday we did an overnight camel safari, which was a bumpy but fun ride, and we stayed overnight in a hut in an Indian village which was really nice and the stars were incredible. And we even saw a shooting star! However, this is where our tour is letting us down - our hotel is a crumbling hole!!!
Next stop is Jodhpur, apparently the blue city!! Then Mumbai, then on to Thailand! Yay!!
Despite sounding negative, we really are having fun, it just gets tough at times, and today has been one of those days! Check out our pictures, we'll put some up now! Bye for now! xx
