8th March- We arrived in Cambodia Yesterday :). Today we are going to the killing fields and the S.21 museum. We have been warned that it'll be quite destressing. We met a tuc tuc driver when we arrived yesterday and asked him to come and meet us at 10am to take us to whereever we wanted for the day, all for just $15!
He looked as though he didn't really know where he was going, but he was very sweet so we let him off as we took an hour and half journey down dirt tracks! He later mentioned he'd only been driving for a month.
The killing fields were where the Khmer Rouge forced all of the Cambodians living in the city into the countryside and labour camps in 1975, Apparently almost every Cambodian family lost at least one family member during it. Over 2million died.
We went on a tour around the whole area and found out how they killed the prisoners and what they did with all of their bodies. You could still see fragments of bones and clothes on the floor as we walked around, as they rise up whenever it rains.
After our tour we hopped in our tuc tuc and went straight to the S.21 Genocide museum. This was were 14,000 Cambodians were totured and executed in an old school. We walked around room by room with the beds people were tourtured on still in the rooms.
There were only 7 survivors of the S.21 centre... We met one of them on the way out.
9th March-
Sooo we really wanted to shoot a rocket launcher today!! You can shoot them at live cows and chickens here which is really sick! But we just wanted to shoot one each!
Our little tuc tuc driver took us a while away from town, again he didn't really know where he was going so we got lost and we were relieved when we saw another white guy on the track. When we got to the shooting range the owner said he'd happily take us to the mountains to shoot the rocket launchers for $350 EACH!!
That's around £200 and we thought we couldn't spare 2weeks budget although it would of been awesome! We shot a M16 on rapid fire instead and went to the Royal Palace back in town.
We were really trying hard to stick to our budget..but walked past an Indian restaurant with 50cent beers and couldn't resist! It was well worth it :)
