Greetings from China.
So the day starting off wwith a cup of tea and my last chance to watch x factor with my mum. Then a very tearful goodbye to the fmaily before I headed through the gates and straight to the Giraffe restaurant with Darren for lunch.
As it was my last chance to eat something decent it was all about the chicken and bacon burger with cheese. Yumo.
We had nearly two hours to wait on the plane before we finally took off. Safe to say with a 10 hr flight ahead of us, an extra two hours wasn't really appreciated. Managed to get about 4 hrs sleep on the plane but the flight went fairly quickly.
What made me laugh the most was when we arrived in China we had to queue up to show our visas and passports and blah blah blah. There were two queues- one for nationals and our queue which had a sign about it saying foreigners! Already it was clear to see how far away i was from the PC UK. Hey ho it made me smile despite how tired i was feeling. Then the next drama was, our transfer hadn't turned up. Bit of a nightmare but eventually sorted by ringing the Chinese STA Tour people and getting a taxi which hopefully they will be paying for.
Wandering around it it a bit bizarre. Not enitrely sure which part we are staying in and how this compare to the rest of the city, but we have another two days here to find out. Already seen lots of meat on sticks and a girl eating ants. Its safe to say if anyone has watched 'An Idiot Abroad', i very much wished i had packed some monster munch. We decided as our tour doesnt start tomorrow neither does our embracing the coutrys culture and food. So instead went to Maccie D's- shameless i know but it all starts tomorrow. We spent a long time walking up and down the streets to see what it was all like. Before heading back we went to the local supermarket to grab a few bits like juice and water etc. Finding it all pretty cheap. With 15 squid we got two Maccie D's, our taxi to the hotel and a good amount of snacks and drink to keep us going. Not bad considering back home 15 would have only made it in a taxi to Cambo from mine.
Going to head to the room for a hour and relax before meeting our rep.
Very exciting as we shall find out what is on the agena for the next few days.
But........ we are here safe and sound, ready for the adventure to begin.
Lots of love Sarah-Louise and Darren xxxx
