28/6 Historic centre
We walked through the fog and misty rain into the historic centre of Lima. It is an interesting city, however it has been sacked a couple of times and many of the building rebuilt. During winter, the city is covered for months and is a foggy ghost town of a city. We arrived in the centre, in the Plaza de Armas where the drizzle increased. Sarah explained this is what England is like and you usually escape it for a bit by picking up a hot chocolate.
We walked around the city and picked up a nice cheap set lunch. After a while it gets the better of us and we decide to relax back at the hostel. Sarah heads out shopping, but a beer and an hour conversation on Facebook with my siblings was fantastic!! Much later we decided to have a date night and try and go to the cinema. There was one movie, staring Will Smith and his son, a sci-fi that was in English with Spanish subtitles. We purchase the tickets to the movie, buy a large (stupidly large some might say) popcorn and a drink and head in. We sit through the Spanish previews and the movie starts. The voice over is in Spanish... Hmmm, maybe it's just the voice over.... Within a minute you see the foreigners leaving. This would be a hard movie to understand in Spanish. I headed out to see what is going on and after about half an hour have the money for the tickets back. But what do you do with a huge popcorn and drinks?
We gave up, headed back and watched half or Ratatouille in Spanish followed by Seven Pounds, a Will Smith movie. I have never eaten so much popcorn before!
On a final note, after all the trekking, after all the hard work, I think I hurt my foot here, walking and slipping a little in my thongs, in the misty rain!!
