Life in Oz!
Hello Everyone! I made it to perth just fine. The shuttle bus was supposed to pick me up at 4am but it only showed up at 4:30. That extra 1/2 hour would have done wonders with my packing too. There were 4 older people that were already picked up and then 2 of us from UniCentral but i didnt know the guy. It was very sad to leave especially because I didnt get to say goodbye to a few people. I slept for about 20 minutes on the way so I missed seeing Brisbane for the last time but it was dark anyway. I was at the domestic terminal by 5:45 but didnt want to check in yet so I sat in some chairs by the door and froze but managed to sleep for probably about an hour. I checked in around 7am and got a comfy spot at the gate. Before I knew it it was almost 8:15 and they were getting ready to board the plane. The plane was much bigger than I expected. It had the 4 seats in the middle and then 2 seats on each side by the window. I sat by an old guy that hogged the arm rest and wasnt very cheerful. But then again I wasnt exactly a happy camper leaving Brisbane either. We got a good breakfast and I watched part of Eight Below before falling asleep. I slept off and on the entire 5 hours. We arrived in Perth sometime around 11:00. If your paying attention that would only be 3 hours, thats because Perth is 2 hours behind. Nothing like screwing with time zones for me. Trying to keep track of what time it is where is ohh so much fun now and I believe when Im in the Northern Territory it will be different again. I took a nice long bus ride from the airport to a bus transfer spot and waited a few minutes to catch a bus that would take me to Wellington Street where there is a travel info centre for backpackers. I made it there and actually found the place I wanted. It was a good choice because the guy gave me a coupon for $15/night for Swan Barracks Backpackers. It is about a 7 minute walk from from the travel place which is handy because they have internet access. I got all checked in and met 2 of my roommates who are German, imagine that. The girls are really nice but warned me that one of the guys is really weird. I wondered back to the travel place to use the internet and find something to do for tomorrow. I walk through the train and bus terminals and a mall so I stopped along the way to get a steak and cheese pie which was very nice. I first stopped at a discount store to look for a small lock so I could lock my locker at the hostel but had no luck. I wasted an hour on the internet and forgot to even look up what I needed to do. I called Whitney to make sure everything went ok when she dropped off my suitcase. All went well but I need to find a hostel so they know where to ship it. I stopped at Woolworth's on the way back and got a few things and sat in my room deciding what to do tomorrow and talked to a few of my roommates who where back. I was exhausted from the day so went to bed about 8:30, which isnt so bad because thats 10:30 east coast time. Not long after my 2 other roommates came back so I ended up talking to them for awhile. They are both Kiwis who are working here in Perth and want to eventually end up in the UK.
