Life in Oz!
I was going to get up at 7:30 but didn't feel like it so it was about 8:15 before I got going. This wasn't a problem though because I had plenty of time to get ready and repack my things. I said goodbye to Tina and checked out by 9:45. I had to stop at the Trackside Backery one last time for a breakfast quiche and then headed to the bus stop in plenty of time for the 10:23 bus instead of the 10:43 like I had planned. I had a nice chat with an older lady who was headed for the airport as well. It took about 40 minutes or so to get to the airport but I'm not going to complain because it only cost $1.30 compared to the $10+ for a shuttle. I wasn't in the airport long before they boarded the plane. I think the flight was about 3 hours. It got confusing because Alice Springs is 1.5 hours ahead of Perth which makes them 1/2 hour behind Queensland. My hostel was there to pick me and 5 other people up which was great. There were 3 German guys sitting behind me on the plane and they ended up coming to the hostel as well. I had a nice chat with them on the way and they were very nice, although I am jealous because they are renting a van and then driving to Uluru and all the way up to Darwin on their own. I didn't waste any time at the hostel and headed to town and soon as I got my things in the room. I found Melanka Backpackers were I will be staying tomorrow night and then continued on to Todd Mall, an outdoor shopping area, mostly with touristy shops and didgeridoo and art galleries. I wondered around for a while and found Billy Goat Hill which ended up looking like a pile of rocks, at least in the dark. I also think I walked by the Royal Doctors Flying Service that I'm hoping to tour tomorrow. I decided it was best to get back to the hostel since it was dark and I didn't know if I should be out alone. When I walked to town there were heaps of people around, most of them being Aboriginal, it was definately a cultural experience. When I checked in they said we could get $5 meals at the restaurant that goes with the hostel so I decided I couldn't go wrong with that. I ordered and when I was finding a seat a girl that was eating alone asked if I wanted to join her. Her name is Sue and she was really nice. She grew up in Australia but has been in England studying for the last 5 years. After dinner we decided to walk into town since there were 2 of us. We ended up stopping at Bojangles, a well known pub here. It was very authentic and we had a nice chat there. She is leaving on a tour tomorrow early so we headed back to the hostel and said goodbye. I was going to update my journals on my computer but some of my roommates were sleeping and I didn't want to disturb them so I decided to go to bed and get up early to explore tomorrow.
