Sara's Travels 05-06
Ok so last time I was leaving Perth. I flew over to Adelaide....I think I would have much preferred that to the 3 day train journey the girls did. I met up with the girls in Adelaide. Because they had been there for a few more days than me and hadnt really left the city, they were rather bored of Adelaide, so I pretty much left the city the next day...I wasnt even there for 24 hours!! It was quite a good cost though as it meant that I got to see a lot more of Perth that I wouldnt have done anyway.
The next part of our adventures involved hiring a car, buying some stupidly cheap tens (about 6 pounds each), plastic plates, disposable BBQs and we headed along the Princes Highway to Warnambool, then we took the Great Ocean Road to Melbourne.
Our first night camping was quite a small town called Meningie that didnt really have much going for it. We then spent a couple of nights in Mount Gambier, which is a gorgeous place, but the weather was against us most of the time cos it was raining, so there was loads of walks and bike riding we could have done, but it was too wet. We did however go to a wildlife park, where we saw Koalas, Emus, Kangas and Wallabys just roaming...we were well excited!
After Mount Gambier we stayed in Warnambool, which was a bit livlier...ohh had the cheapest chinese buffet (Rob you would have been in heaven!).
From Warnambool we headed along the actual Great Ocean Road part of the journey. This was fantastic. There were loads of little stop of scenic places we went to and then got to the Twelve Apostles (see pic), which were fantastic. The road past Appollo Bay was fantastic, really windy in the cliffs, withe the ocean right next to you...incredible!
We stayed in a place called Lorne that night, which was a cute little place on the sea. It was quite a classy place really, but we arrived late and left reasonably early so we didnt get to see much of Lorne. The next drive took us to Geelong, which is just south of Melbourne. Again this was a city rather than a town, so a lot busier. We only really stopped here because we had another day before we had to drop the car off. We treated oursleves that evening with a massive BBQ. We did however have to say goodbye to our cheap tents as just when it was time to pack the tents on the day we went to Melbourne it started raining yet again and we thought that there would be no where to air them out...so we let go of the tents!
So we arrived in Melbourne on Tues 6th. So far we have had a wonder around the city...including some shopping....well we havent seen shopping malls for ages, so it would be rude not to! We have booked a trip to Philip Island where there is loads of wildlife apparently. We also have a Neighbours tour and Neighbours evening tour (where you meet the stars) booked for Monday so that should be good.
Anyways best go, running out of time on internet. Im sure next installment will be full of many stories involveing some of the neighbours stars!!!!
