Sara's Travels 05-06
So we left rainy Sydney and heading towards even rainier Byron Bay to find that there was no accomodation actually in the town so we managed to get some at a place just outside called Lennox Head. There is obviously a rush to travel north after new year in Sydney so all gets booked up real quick.
Anyways Lennox Head was a cute surfery town that had a gorgeous long sweeping beach, on which I took quite a couple of beach runs in the evening (that is when it wasnt raining!) The place we stayed in was also the cutest place with hammocks, outdoor kitchen, longing areas and nice air conditioned rooms...for quite cheap as well. Sal, Claire and I were to stay here until Chamberlain and Kate were to catch up with us from Sydney as they arrived left a few days after us. NOw this was a time for us three to be sufficiently topping up our tan...the weather on the other hand had a different idea...it rained the whole 4 days we were there and drizzled the day that we eventually got to Byron Bay. So not really much to report from Lennox head. It had a Tea Tree lake which was quite exciting...but when we went to see it...it was absolutely chucking it down!!
Anyways we had one night actually in Byron Bay....where we managed to catch a few hours of sun. Ireally loved Byron Bay...it was a bigger than Lennox Head, but not really touristy and not ruined too much by those backpackers!!I would really like to go back here...maybe in the two weeks that me and Chamberlain have after the others have gone...you can learn to surf there too which would be quite good fun!
Anyways...we left Byron Bay for Surfers Paradise as it was Claires birthday and she wanted to be somewhere a bit livlier...as although Byron had a few cute bars and restaurants....there was only really one really really cheesy club!! So we hit Surfers...staying at the Cheers backpackers which possibly had the hottest room I have ever stayed in...close resemblence to a sauna!!! We (as always) hit the beach straight away. Now Surfers is well the complete opposite to Byron...still very much a surfing town...but kinda resembled some greek island maybe Kavos or something....really touristy, high rise hotels. Good cos it was quite lively, which when you have been stuck indoors all week cos rain stopped play, but not really to my taste. The waves there however were absolutely awesome...they were soooo big and the ones that just knocked you off your feet!
We spent Claires birthday having a meal, then hit a few bars. Claire managed to find herself some VERY rich men who spolied her with champagnes, strawberries, drinks more drinks and 22 shots for every year. Was such a fun night! The next day was pretty much spent recovering!!
On our final day in Surfers we went to a water park called Wet n Wild. It was soooo awesome there and quite a nice change from the beach. There was also a Dive In movie at the end of the day, where you hired a rubber ring and watched a film in the pool. It was THE cheesiest film 'The Perfect Man' and I think I may have developed a small cold from it....but well worth it!!!!
Anyways off to Brisbane next...not heard much about it so dont really know what to expect.
