My, we have only been in France for 1 week but so much has happened.
Today Sunday we thought to go to church but the local one was not happening this week . We still went for a visit after breakfast of bread & vegemite , croissants & coffee. We then did a tour of the market where we bought our chicken & rice & coleslaw lunch. We also purchased our tomatoes ham & baguette for later plus some delicious strawberries.
After lunch we went for a drive to St Amand de Coly where there is the most amazing Abbey (30 metres to the inside of the domed roof) Good to wander in God's house today. We had a walk round the town stopped for a drink and then drove on to Montignac What an amazing setting on the Vezeres river. After a wander along the river and some photo moments we successfully returned to St Genies. Another good day and now it's time to sleep .
After a good night's rest we decided to set off for Beynac et Cayenac and the Auto musee at Salviac. About an hour or so from St Genies. We drove via Salignac , had a photo stop , just great views and interesting structures. We love it. Parked below the castle protruding from the rocks above and walked about a third of t he way up the hill (rather like mountain goats) . Could you believe there was an ice cream and drink cart just at the right spot, after such exertion. We stopped to indulge and then I went to the top and took in the magnificent views along the Dordogne River also did a tour of the castle and being reminded of the 100 years war etc.. My history research is certainly being added to this trip! We decided to have an omelet for lunch at our little garden ice cream shop and cafe. After saying our farewells to Beynac we negotiated our way to Salviac where Phil had a brochure of an auto & tractor museum .
We found it and spent an hour and a half or so looking around at the various hangars of tractors and cars and other interesting displays. The mechanic was pleased to start a couple of the old engines and proudly sang their praises. After viewing the special exhibit set up from the owners grandmother's home (lovingly done) we set off for our B & B in St Genies.
We stopped at McDonald's on the way for some familiar food & then did some shopping at Carrefours - a huge supermarket . We got back to St Genies found the flexiteller and came back to our digs. The owners son met us and told us he worked at an ice cream factory and then proceeded to share some of the wares with us . We had delicious rose ice cream & strawberries for dessert. Another great day.
