We are having a wonderful holiday thus far. Packed up this morning and said our farewells to the crew of CookinFrance and the penultimate school of 2012. A great week it was.
We headed southwards to Domme - a walled city of medieval days. Phil's driving was to be admired negotiating through Sarlat etc to get us to our destination about 30 k's away. Amazing scenery over the Dordogne river. We walked into the town and enjoyed a diesel motored train that took us round the ramparts and through the town. We then had lunch at a restaurant which we thought was great value for 3 courses. Goats cheese & walnut salad to start , duck in wine sauce with frittes & then nougat ice cream to finish delicious , all enjoyed with our ice tea. It happened to be about 30 degrees today. I think I will have to get some summer clothes! After lunch we went for a tour of the caves which were under the town it seemed. They were quite impressive . We seemed to be walking for ages into them and were beginning to get concerned about the uphill trek to make our way out only to find as we came out to daylight there was a wonderful Otis lift! This took us up to a viewing place over the river and then we were able to get to the town centre and back to our hire car. We made our way back to St Genies where we are domiciled for the next 5 days. We went to the supermarket to get some baguettes ,cheese & ham for our evening repast and then checked into our lovely B & B. Only another millions steps to negotiate with our luggage!
It's interesting not having the language but my schoolgirl understanding of some key french words has certainly helped.
The people have been very friendly and helpful which has been great.
Well time to settle down now and dream of tomorrow's French adventures.
