Hi everyone!
Finally it's the weekend, I have never appreciated a weekend so much as this one. I'm fruit picking in a little place called Cooktown. We are working on Swiss Banana farm, and I'll never eat another banana ever again. The first few days I was working inside, opposite Jayne which was fun, we could chat, and just chopped heads off bananas for 9 hours. Very exciting, and rewarding. :-)
I think we were destined not to work one day. There is usually a bus that picks us all up from hostel, it's one hour to work, but only one turned up, so they said they would come back for us. We have to get up at 5 every morning to be ready. The bus came back at 9.30, then we got to work, and it was break time already, then after half hour work the electricity went off, so we sat around for 2 hours doing nothing. Fun times!
I was working outside yesterday in paradise as they call it. Pulling leaves off banana trees with a huge machette, and almost took few people heads off with the difficult ones. LSst night we were extremely excited for "happy hour" in one of the local pubs, this old guy we live with "Yanky John" talks about nothing else all week. We had few beers last night, were the most rewarding beers I have ever had.
There is a huge aboriginal community here, and a lot of fights. Today we woke up at 12.30, a nice relaxing day, it's so hot here at the moment. Still doesn't feel like Christmas here, funny hearing Christmas songs on the radio! Only one more week of torture in the banana farm and then we leave for Sydney. We are driving with two guys we met, one of them is here working with us.
That's all for now! Hope you are all ready for Christmas. Love you, miss you all. xx
