Our last day in BK! Got up and managed to find and hop on the bus to Chatuchak market with the yokels - when we heard it was one of the biggest in the world we took it with a pinch of salt until we got there and reality kicked in, it was massive!Anything and everything; clothes, arts and crafts, homeware, shoes etc you name it! there were loads of food stalls too so we decided to try some authentic thai for lunch. Sinead got boiled chicken and rice, the chicken was slimey with the black veins showing and bones still in. Matt got a mega spicy Tom Yum soup which came complete with chicken feet, snipped wings and various other unidentifiable parts - he just drank the soup!!
Sinead proved quite quickly that her bartering skills were non existant. A dress priced at 250B was reduced to 200B by the vendor as her best price - in comes Matt with his 'i'll give you 100B' and the usual response of 'no,no,no' - this went on for a little while with Matt having got to 120B and the vendor still not budging - thats where Sinead steps in, Matt thinking she will say 150B, she comes straight in with 180 and the deal is made! seriously it wasnt worth negotiating the difference of 20p.
We wanted to get back to see the rugby so left the markets after lunch and decided to take the sky train back, 1) to experience it and 2) we didnt know where to get the bus back from. we got off at Siam square and jumped a tuk tuk for 100B, bargain seeing as it took 20mins to get to our destination! We watched the match, paid £5 (yes pounds) for a guinness then headed back to the hotel to have a nap. We got up with the intention of grabbing a bite to eat and a drink from a street stall right opposite our accommodation and back for an early night, simples. Introducing Buj, our new London, Indian friend who was seeing a bit of Bangkok - we showed him what we knew and ended up having several thai whisky buckets, food tasting at 3am and landing into bed at 5am, was a fun night.
