Our Travels
This morning we had planned to go to church for the Kirkin' o' the Tartan but somehow time ran away with us so we abandoned that idea and concentrated on getting ourselves up and ready in time for lunch! The weather had looked really promising first thing with blue skies and sunshine, but by the time we set off for our last visit to Duart Castle the black clouds were gathering and the rain drops were falling once again.
When we reached Duart the wind was blowing and there was a chill in the air so we were very glad to go inside the marquee and warm up. There were 30 tables of 10 people each and we joined a group of some old acquaintances and new ones too. We were served a hearty lunch of smoked trout to start with followed by a huge plateful of haggis, neeps and tatties. Our new Canadian friends were a little bit suspicious of the haggis but bravely tried it and even quite enjoyed it!
The wine was flowing and the conversation was lively. It was hard to believe that. after so much planning, this Centenary Gathering was finally coming to an end. Simon had worn a kilt three days in a row, and who knows when he may wear it again! The Chief, Sir Lachlan Maclean, gave a touching farewell in which he urged us all to remember that the Macleans are known for their loyalty, honesty and bravery and we should carry that thought with us always.
We said our own farewells, including a last goodbye to Duart Castle, and made our way back to Tobermory.
