Our Travels
We set off early to the Octagon in the centre of Dunedin to soak up the atmosphere before the game. It was packed with supporters, both English and Argentinian, with flags and costumes in abundance. However, if there was a prize for singing and sheer volume of support then the Argentinians would win hands down! That South American beat is hard to compete with and we could do with coming up with a few more songs to raise the rafters. English rugby supporters could do with taking a few lessons from the Barmy Army (he bowls to the left etc) and then we could REALLY take on the world!
We joined the huge crowds on the walking route to the stadium, stopping on route for a beer or two and enjoying the entertainment along the way. The new Otago Stadium is impressive and we got inside and found our seats with no hassle. The atmosphere inside the stadium was fantastic, and once again the Argentinian support was superb, not that the English support was bad!
As English supporters the game itself was very stressful as we gave away far too many penalties and Jonny Wilkinson did not have his best day at kicking. However, we held on and got stronger towards the end just when we really needed it and got the right result in the end. A win for England of 13-9, not a huge margin but a win is a win is a win!!!!! It can only get better from here and it most definitely will!!
W stopped off again at the Octagon on the way back to the hotel and celebrated the result with lots of new friends. What a great evening!
