We arrived in Siem Reap on Saturday, the past few days have gone really quick.
Our hostel is really cool. It has a pool and beach bar (the floor is actually sand).
Our first experience of Siem Reap was pub street. After a few drinks at our hostel with people we have met along the way, we made our way out out (Micky Flanagan fans). Pub street is as the name suggests, a street lined with bars and restaurants. We soon settled in and found ourselves dancing on tables and in the streets. It didn't take long for a dance off to break out but it wasn't me that started it this time...good job cos I would have been way out of my depth. Naturally I couldn't help myself and had to bust a few moves! Even the girls got involved.
The next day was not so fun, it must be their alcohol out here..a full day of hungoverness!!
That evening we planned to go and see the sunset at Angkor Wat, the main attraction in Siem Reap.
It was abit of an anti climax. Firstly, we couldn't go to the best spot for the sunset as the girls didn't have their knees covered (cheap tarts), and secondly it was really cloudy so the sunset was rubbish anyway. But at least it got us up and out and took our minds off the hangover that was still lingering.
We got our tuk tuk driver to drop us at the night market. Here we got a little carried away as we had missed a good night market!!
The next morning we got up at 4.30 for sunrise..this was incredible. We had been really looking forward to Angkar Wat and it did not disappoint!
We had a driver for the day that took us to each temple. So glad that we did. With the sun beating down and everything being so far apart our day could have been a lot different!
My favourite temple was by far Bayon. It's the one with all the faces, there's lots of pics!
We also went to Ta Prohm (tomb raider) which was pretty cool as it is in amongst jungle!
Everything we saw was so impressive, especially as it was built in the 12th century. I don't think anyone could produce something that incredible with the technology we have today!
The rest of that day was spent chilling around the pool as we didn't have a lot of energy for much else.
Today we did a bit more chilling round the pool. In the afternoon we had arranged for our tuk tuk driver from the day before to take us to the floating villages. Unfortunately we hadn't done much research into it and it wasn't what we expected. The boat there was also very overpriced, therefore we gave it a miss and headed straight back. It wasn't a wasted journey though, as we got a good view of Cambodian life, making our way past some villages on the way.
Tomorrow evening we head back to Bangkok for the fourth and final time of our Asia journey. It will be slightly different this time though as we will be with Sam and Clare, and my boy Si is flying out to join the party for two weeks! Cannot wait! X
