We were unsure whether to go to Battambang as we were told there wasn't much here! Due to having some spare time, we decided to give it a go! It was definitely the right decision!
We left Phnom Penh about 9am and eventually arrived to the bus station at 4pm. The bus ride wasn't the best we've had. As well as being a rather sweaty journey, we were also stopped for an hour while the driver tried to fix a fault!
When we arrived we jumped into a tuk tuk who brought us to our hostel. During the journey we arranged for him to pick us up that evening to take us to the circus. He was also going to be our driver the next day.
We were unsure what to expect from the circus but we were very pleasantly surprised! It is run by an organisation who train disadvantaged kids to give them a head start in life. They were incredible!
Our tuk tuk driver picked us up this afternoon and first took us the the crocodile farm. This was interesting. We were taken to what was pretty much a back garden, where we were greeted by a lady in her pyjamas! We were not expecting to see 300 crocodiles living there!
Next stop was the bamboo train. A very cool experience, pictures will explain! It took us on a twenty minute ride through the country to a stop just outside of Battambang. We stopped for a much needed drink, in a hut owned by a lovely Cambodian lady. She informed us we were her only customers in two days and was over the moon! After a cold refreshment and long chat with the lady, we jumped back on the train. A couple of times we had to stop when people were coming towards us on other 'trains'. For us to continue they had to dismantle the trains and then put them back on the track once we had passed!
Our final stop was a small mountain. We took a very sweaty stroll up to the top, seeing a few sights on the way. At the top we were confronted by a very angry monkey who almost took our lives when it charged at us. To save the day, Samuel threw his ice cream in its direction, which distracted it enough for us to make a quick escape!
Once back safely at the bottom, we waited at the bat cave, where we were informed they would all fly out when the sun went down. It was an incredible sight!!! Thousands and thousands of bats flew out on cue, when the sun went down, and all headed in the same direction! Unfortunately pictures don't quite do the experience justice!
With hungry bellies, our tuk tuk driver dropped us at a pizza place for dinner. It was next to a place we had spotted in the morning, that looked like it had pretty good sweet treats! So of course some amazing deserts followed pizza, finishing the day off nicely!
Tomorrow morning we move onto Siem Reap, our last stop in Cambodia!
