Christchurch
Back in the city again. Typical Emma and Sam style we got off the bus with no idea where to stay or go. Or course we ended up in a hostel aboput an hour later after wandering the streets like tramps with a carrier bag of limp, leafy celery. After a relaxing eveing of showers and tea it was bed time.
And now here we are stuck to a computer keyboard, doing our services to you, our public. I lie actually. We did have a bit of a mooch around in a lazy state. We saw the trams whic are so old fashion and romantic- do i sound old or what!! The square which is the centre of town and also home to Christchurch Cathederal is where we have spent most of the day. There were some lovely market stalls selling jewlery, GOD HELP ME, and we had a lovely hot spud from a stall. There was a giant chess game also taking place, which was quite surreal as everone was so quiet. There was a variety of people watching including some ironically placed skater kids. How bizzare. People say that Christchurch is a rather european city and i can see why. In between all of this two english girls could be seen running out of the internet cafe, to the loo and back again, only to glimpse some bizarre steet entertainment involving a woman in bright stripey tights with a bare midriff, who should have clearly been using anti wrinkle cream by this stage in her life. She was one of those types who i imagine would only use toiletries that were stuffed full of herbs, doesnt believe in deodorant and whiles away the hours of the day by prancing around semi naked with 4 coloured hula hoops. It was amusing in my small mind as you can gather. There was also some guy singing which was nice.
Oh and i fell into a peircing and tatoo parlour and got my tounge done. Actually it wasnt like that at all. Emma would tell you that i was going on for hours about 'what the hell am i doing'. So thats it. Our first day in Christchurch, and we thought we would finish with another stint in the internet cafe...
its so hot in here. Do you think the heat has affected me? possibly?
Day two and no escape!!
Today we get up with the intention of visiting Akaroa, which is the peninsula town just off Christchurch. Our casual attitude did not do us well today as we were informed that the hostels were all booked at mo. Typical. How are we supposed to intrepid, adventurous hippy travellers if we cant just up and go. Well i dont think its going to sound too good when we tell everyone at home that we had to plan our trip weeks in advance. woops. just did. What ever happened to spontiaiety? Where is the fun in knowing where you are going?!!!
So today it was Emmas turn to fall into the peircing shop. and so she did. And well. And out she popped with a fat lip with a bit of metal through it!! Wooppie
We had a goose around the Square and the Catherderal which was lovery and warm and welcoming. Great windows again , and some lovely painted panels on the wall. One thing i did notice that was odd was the fact they has 3 organs. Why???!! We then soaked up a bit more crazy chess, trams, stalls and performers whist wandering across the square.
We spent most of our day in the Botanical Gardens, after walking past all the old buildings in the arts centre. The Gardens were stunning. There was a beautiful river overlooked by willows. There were plenty of ducks and a guy in a boater had punting up and down the river on those boats you see in films with ladies in old fashion frocks. Whist dying for a pee i came across buildings full of flowers, cacti and plants. Me and em went back for a leisurley look. There was also a rose garden which smelled and looked sweet. Ther are some pics up soon for all you avid gardenrs ( yes you too mum).
After that we went in the Canterberry museun but after about 15 mins we just wanted to have food and home. So we did. I think we are both quite tired after working still, and used to waking up at 5:45.
I only had chicken soup and soggy bread for breakfast as i cant chew well yet. For lunch i only had a smoothie as i wasnt going to pay $10 dollars for soup. I think that was part the reason why i wasnt feeling to great. Anyway, so there was me and em sitting down to dinner; Me with mashed up tin spagetti, diced pears ( we thought it was peached- i think someone changed the labels) and a tounge now the size of a small baloon; and her with a fat lip and a plate of rice. I cant eat well and everytime i talk i lisp. Emma laughs at my disabilities and in turn hurts her lip. So we both end up in pain and laughing at each other!! Nothing chnages and we are still teenagers at heart.
Tomorrow we head on to Lake Tekepo and Mount Cook. Look out, here we come!!!
