Justine and I have made it to the salsa capital of Colombia, Cali. We still had quite sore heads after we farewelled Kim in Lima, or Kim farewelled us and our bad behaviour, I'm not entirely sure. But given we are meant to do some dancing while we are here, we thought we might spoil ourselves with a cheap manicure and pedicure, so we look the part! We followed that up with the best homemade guacamole EVER! Seriously, the avocados in South America are so good, we make if every chance we get, so we are getting pretty damn good at it...
While in Calj we decided to hit up a tour the included all the major sights such as:
1. The Cali version of Christ the Redeemer, it's called Christo Rey. Sounds like someone living in Deep South in my opinion.... Christo Rey with his two kids Bobby Rey and Christo Rey Junior...
2. Major view points and statues.
3. Trying some local delicacies, a certain smoothie and some fruit with salt and honey on it - not too bad!
Amongst seeing some other major spots, we also got talked in to a tour to San Cipriano the following day. This is when we got our first real taste of Colombia...
We woke up at 5.30 to be ready for our 6am departure and two hour journey. This gave us our first Colombian driving experience. What an event... We could breathe easy when we had finally made it... Stage two was a motorbike train. I know it sounds ridiculous. But you sit on bench seats that have train wheels and a motorbike is attached and pushes you along the tracks at 60km/h. Typical Colombian safety it would seem. We were told to bring bathers, and that was about it. Information was seriously lacking. So we ended up doing two hours of hiking in our bathers and some water shoes that the tour guide provided. Unfortunately Justine ended up with a pair that kept taking on small pebbles whenever we were in the water, to which she was complaining. I couldn't help but giggle and say "I guess we are in Colombia now" and she would reply with "that doesn't mean I turn into a f***ing Colombian!"
The hike took us to three waterfalls. The first was average at best... Waterfall number two was gorgeous, but had definitely been exaggerated. We were told it was 25m... It definitely wasn't. We didn't want to burst her bubble by saying we had been to Iguazu... Waterfall number three was also beautiful, but we were too distracted watching the selfie king try and climb it thinking he might take a serious stack...
Speaking of the selfie king, this is an actual conversation that occurred between him, Justine and I. I'll type it out so you can understand it best... FYI "SK = Selfie King" and "S&J = Sam and Justine".
SK: Since I've been in Colombia, these brown spots have appeared on my arms
S&J: Freckles.
SK: But why have I got them?
S&J: The sun.
SK: How do I stop them?
S&J: Sunscreen.
SK: Will they go away?
S&J: No.
We were honestly flummoxed, this guy was 24 years old, and didn't know what a freckle was! Needless to say, he was a highlight of our day!
Next stop is Bogota!
