Sam the all star Trecker
We drove to the outskirts of the Grand Canyon which took us about 4 hours. The Grand Canyon is massive and you have the choice of going to the North, South, West and East rims but they are very far apart so we stayed just outside the South Rim that night in another lovely Motel. When we arrived I went for a walk through the Hill Billy town where everyone kind of yelled at you rather than spoke, but in a nice way. I occupied myself on the internet and then started to head back to the motel (it was getting a little dark) when I heard gun shots and looked up the road and saw a road blocked off by police!! I got really scared as I was on my own and I couldn't see anyone so I figured I would walk towards the police who would protect me. In sweats I got closer to the road block and realised that people weren't being held captive by armed robbers but that there was a little hill billy show on!! You can see the photos! It was hilarious though I don't think I have ever been so scared in my life. I stuck around and watched a bit of the show with all the women and men dressed up in Country and Western style. Then I headed back to the room to relay the story to Hannah and Vicky who I found doing lengths in the freezing cold swimming pool at our hotel, wearing wetsuits! Bless them they looked a sight! The next day we drove to the little airport and hopped in our tiny little plane and did a massive tour over the entire Grand Canyon. It was just fab and the plane went very low and you could see all the different colours in the rocks and the amazing turquoise clolours of the water. My task is to definately go back and white water raft through the canyon as it looked amazing! It was definately a wonder of the world and like nothing I have seen before and the vastness of it was spectacular! I did start to feel a bit sick though after a while as the plane was going very low and it was extremely bumpy. Luckily just as I went to reach for my ;happy' sack they told us they were going into land, thank god. It was a brill experience though and definately one worth doing.
After the plane journey we headed for Orange County but only made it to Palm springs before we were feeling tired.
