Sunny Siena
Made it to Siena! There are no buses to Volterra today or tomorrow, so I'll just stay an extra day in Siena before I head to Rome. Took a bus from the train station to Piazza Gramsci with the help of a local college student and then walked to Il Campo. How cool to see hundreds of people just lounging on the brick amphitheater enjoying the sunshine on a Sunday. Found the tourist information office and bought a map and got a recommendation on where to stay. Albergo Tre Donzelle is a little hotel right behind Il Campo and almost as cheap as the one hostel WAY out of town. I have a cute little double room with a sink and the bathroom down the hall. Kind of like college again! Haha! The Wifi signal is strong, so I had a chance to get caught up and call home to say hello. Tried some local yummies like Panforte Margherita and Fresh Frittelli. Wandered around to get my bearings and had dinner at Il Bandierino. Pici (Peach-ee) ah'Aglione, bread, Chiante and lemoncello for dessert! Dinner was outside under an awning with heaters overlooking Il Campo. Nice night! Seeing all of the paintings and sculptures along the way so far has made me realize that the "ideal" woman throughout time looks a lot more like my pudgy self than the "skinny b****es" of today's top fashion. I think the great artists had the right idea! :)
