Sorry I am so late on my blog this week.
I don't have a ton to write about because for the first weekend since I've been here we didn't really do a whole this weekend.
Me and a few other girls took a day hike just outside of Heredia on Saturday. This hike we were told was one of the easier hikes around here. Can't say I completely agree. Hiking here is very different from being at home because it is in the jungle. Everything is muddy and falling happens often. I also almost stepped on a small snake that looked like a stick. Needless to say I wasn't too keen on this hike anymore!
We also had a total "gringo" moment at the top of the hike. Being the naive girls in which we looked to be. This man offered to take us down to waterfall that was 10 minute walk away. After slipping in a bunch of mud and getting really rather frustrated we arrived at the waterfall. It was beautiful but being covered in mudd was definitely not my idea of a good time. Upon arriving back at the camp where we had met the man he preceeded to tell us that we had to pay for him to take us down there. I was fuming, but I'm too nice of a person so I paid the man and quickly left.
This weekend was also el dia de independencia for Costa Rica so there was lots of celebrating going on. Sadly for me, I was feeling very under the weather on Sunday so I was unable to join in the celebrations.
As I told you all before my cooking class has quickly became my favorite class. Once a week I get the chance to do what I love and just make some great food. Last week we made the best thing I have eaten here. It comes from the Caribbean side of the country and has lots of coconut flavor. You can see the picture of Arroz y Camerones con coco in my pictures. I am so excited to make it for my parents when we spend the week in Puerto Viejo.
This week in cooking it was not meant to a meal but of course we pigged out and fully enjoyed the galletas we made. We made both sweet ones and savory scone. That will be perfect to go with breakfast for myself when I get home. Both pictures are posted.
Sorry this week wasn't so exciting! But soon we will be off to Panama and I will have plenty to talk about.
Love and miss you all!
