So, I wasn't sure it was possible, but I experienced my first weekend where I was more excited to come back to the city than stay at the beach.
We had heard that in Puntarenas there was going to be a big celebration there and that it may be very exciting. Since there was no way that I was going to stay in the city another weekend I agreed to go. Little did we know the "celebration" was an air show that had never happened before and attracted over 200,000 people. It was insane.
The weekend was definitely an adventure. Because of the mass amounts of people there were no hostels, or hotels available. We were lucky that we had a friend, who has a friend, who has a friend that lives there and we could crash at his house for the evening.
When we woke up on Sunday morning after only being in town for 12 hours we quickly made our way down to the beach to watch the show. As I'm used to parades and attractions said to start in the morning I assumed that the show would happen by 9 or 10 a.m. As we are sitting on the beach in what felt like 150 degree weather I started to get impatient.
The water is not very nice there so I wasn't going to try the ocean to cool off. Since Costa Rica has never had an airshow like this before what happened was probably very impressive to most. But as I was beginning to suffer from heat exhaustion I was not overly impressed. By 11:30 Kaitlin and I headed to the bus station to catch the next bus back to San Jose.
Since the traffic going into town was so horrible it definitely affected the traffic headed out, as in Costa Rica they tend to make 1 lane into two, making everyone wait longer. Just getting out of town took our bus an hour.
Public buses don't have air conditioning. I was getting more and more sick from the heat and lack of fresh air coming through the windows while we were stuck in traffic. It took every bit of my will to keep me from being sick all over the bus.
When we finally arrived back in Heredia, I don't think I've ever been so excited to see the city. Compared to the mass amounts of people the city even seemed quiet. I had been just sitting in my own sweat all day so I was quick to take a shower. After drinking two liters of water I was finally feeling a bit better and could finish my homework and go to bed.
I've never said that I'm thankful a weekend is over before, but last night I was definitely feeling it.
Also, I'm very much looking forward to the weekend of being spoiled in an All Inclusive resort with Kaitlin and her parents this weekend!
