We have had a lovely 3 and a bit days exploring Avignon and a few surrounding towns.
We stayed in a lovely apartment we found through airbnb, that was right in the old town within walking distance of the market, all the things we wanted to see and good pastry shops and the station.
We have nearly had our fill of castles and walled cities already though!!
Our second day here was extra special as we hired a car and drove out to see the town of Saint Remy where we discovered a market ( excellent) and then to see some friends who are currently living in France. Morgan and Kim live in a little town called Maubec which is about 35 minutes from Avignon. They cooked us a fabulous fench meal then took us off on a journey of the nearby towns of Fountaine d'Vaucluse and Gordes. They both are towns that perch high on the hills, seeming to grow out of the hillside.
It was a fun day although it was extremely nervewracking driving on the wrong side of the road. Geoff drove very well although at times it felt (to Sally) that he was veering a little to close to the edge of the road. The french drive in a very crazy way making it even more scary.
Our final day was spent at a lovely slow pace, looking a more old buildings and a lovely garden, great weather today - hopefully I can send my boots home soon!
next stop Spain!!
