Day 18 - two options for the day - climb another volcano or do a day trip to a lagoon. The two Swiss girls - Lyvia and Jacqline of course chose to hike and everyone else chose to relax in the sun and swim in the lagoon.
So we jumped on the karaoke bus again and headed 2 hrs out of Ataco to the lagoon, stopping on the way to get snacks and beers for the day.
Arrived at the lagoon and got of the bus to a restaurant which was on a pier and unfortunately had some older gentlemen singing very badly and very loudly. So as much as we didn't want to, we kinda complained to poor Fernado that we didn't want to stay and asked him politely to find us somewhere else better to go. And so he did, just a little bit down the road. He managed to convince a hotel manager to let us go into the hotel grounds and hang out on the grass and eat in their restaurant etc. So we were all very content with that. The water was beautiful and again being a water baby I was in the water most of the time. Then it got even better when there was an opportunity to have a ride on a donut attached to a jet ski. So Mel and I went together and man I thought Jed was bad but this guy was on a mission to get us off!! He was pulling us along so fast and it was so incredibly bumpy that we both came off several times!! At one stage I came off and rolled across the water about 5 times before actually landing in the water. It was a lot of fun. Mel and I were laughing our heads off most of the time and especially at the end when we realized the bruises were already showing and I had lost my earrings, hair tie and pretty much my bather bottoms as well! I am pretty sure everyone sitting in the restaurants watching on would have seen it all and we're having a very big laugh at us! Ah gotta love water sports!!
After relaxing in the sun and watching the sun go down over the lagoon it was time to head back. The trip back should have only taken us 2 hours but instead it took 3 hours due to the women driver going soooo incredibly slow. We think / could see she was not confident and scared of driving in the dark. It was so frustrating and it was killing me!! I don't deal well with s*** drivers!! People were flashing there lights and beeping her, overtaking at crazy dangerous times due to sheer frustration. She was driving at 40kms in a 100km zone and she was all over the road. At one stage we all thought we were going to die in this bus or she was going to cause a major accident. Jason was getting bad anxiety and was climbing all over the bus giving us a running commentary on how fast / slow she was going. In the end we were all just cracking jokes and laughing at the situation and eventually got home. We found out later that she doesn't normally drive the bus, her husband does but he was unwell and unable to.
So to ease the tension, of course we went out for pupusia's for dinner on our last night in El Salvador.
Tomorrow we were on the road again and heading for Copan Honduras.
