Sair and Chris on the move
We have had THE best few days you could ever imagine! I don't think it's possible to capture how good it has been in words but i'll do my best............
Well, tuesday was a great day spent at Kings Canyon. We were picked up at 6am and arrived at Kings Canyon at lunch time after visiting Mount Ebenezer roadhouse! We completed the 6km rim walk which was pretty daunting in the hot weather as it was 43c (110f) - hot hot hot! Mark, our guide was really informative and the walk was lots of fun! The best part was half way round when we arrived at the Garden of Eden as there was a water hole that we could swim in. We didn't know about it so hadn't taken any swim wear but we just jumped in fully clothed as we knew we'd dry off. It was just what we needed as it cooled us down. By the end of the walk we were both bone dry so it was all good fun! We had tea in Mount Ebenezer roadhouse which was minging but we'd had a good day so weren't too bothered. We then had a few beers and had an early night in the motel as we had a big day tomorrow.
Well, where do I start with our trip to Uluru. We were picked up at 9am and then drove to Ululru-Kata Tjuta national park which took 2hours. Once we arrived at the park, our first stop was at Kata Tjuta/The olgas where we went on a self guided tour into the gorge of 2 of the main domes. The size of the rocks and the age was only realised when we got closer - it was great to see! After our 40minute walk, the bus then drove to the photo point where we could capture the whole landmark in one photo!
We then drove to the cultural centre which was educational and then we made our way to Ululru where we were to complete 2 base walks. It's hard to describe how amazing it is in real life, I was lost for words (and no that doesn't happen often!) The 2 walks were really enjoyable and our tour guides certainly made it fun as they told us lots of aboriginal stories along the way. We felt like children again as we got lost in the myths and beliefs about the different parts of the rock. We saw it's 'heart', the 'elephant head', the lips and much more - it was fascinating. We took lots of great photos and tried to capture the magic. Some areas are sacred so no photography was allowed, such as the womens caves, which just added to special feeling of our sacred journey around the monolith!
To end our special day, we enjoyed a champagne bbq in the sunset viewing area, where we had an amazing view of the whole rock. The photos were as good as on postcards, the feeling inside was priceless and the bbq was tasty (Chris enjoyed his sausages). It was the perfect end! Unfortunately there was no sunset as it was too cloudy but the atmosphere was great and the day had been so good we didn't care. We arrived home at midnight - one things was for sure, it was a day to rememeber! We will never forget our magical day at Uluru!
Well, yesterday was spent relaxing as it had been 2 big days and we were shattered so we wandered around town, did a supermarket sweep and read books. We then popped to the night market last night which was nice. It was only small but worth a wander!
And then onto today - we went quad biking! It was great fun actually! We were picked up at 9.20am and driven to a cattle station where we enjoyed our 1 hour adventure. The bikes were actually quite hard to pick up at first but I got there. The man told me to name it Chris and treat it like I do him - take no messing and show whose in control! That made it all a lot easier - hehehe! No it was good fun even though we were covered in dust at the end. First stop when we got back was another shower! We then had lunch and have now walked to the centre for a wander and an iced coffee. We love Alice Springs, it's got a lovely feel and it a really great place.
We're planning on doing a bike ride tomorrow to the Desert Park and the Telegraph Station. Tour guide Chris tells me that this is how Alice came to be! All sounds a bit boring to me but it'll be worth the trip.
Well, i'll stop blabbering on now! We're moving on on Sunday and we have the 22hour mammoth journey to Adelaide. We're not looking forward to it but it'll be worth it when we arrive. We set off at 10am from Alice and arrive in Adelaide at 7am the next morning!
