22:15 - Oh boy... What a long ride in a bus! We left at 7am this morning Salta on our way to San Pedro de Atacama (Chile). 8 and a half hours on a local bus (fairly comfortable and air conditioned). The ride took us up into the Andes and the high plains and then back down to 2400 metres (we peaked at 5000 during the journey). The scenery was amazing. Mountains, salt plains, vast flat lands...We crossed the border between Argentina and Chile and arrived in San Pedro at around 4pm. We dropped our stuff off at the cute little place we are staying in for the next two nights. It's on the main street (there are two streets altogether...and a square with a church). We met Juan who will be our guide tomorrow at the Geyzers. I then went walkabouts and changed some dollars for local money and bought a chilean sim card. The place is filled with backpackers...a very young crowd. This is the gateway to some amazing places after all. A few of us then had a beer in a bar on the main square and Matthew shared some of his mountain climbing experiences. We went back to meet Sally and the others for dinner. We ate in a lovely little place just a little up the road (PS I had chicken :-) )...it would be really difficult to get lost here. Now, finally, it starts to feel like a bit of an adventure!
