16:30 - Leasurely breakfast at 9am this morning. Jolanda came down to say she had caught a stomac bug and would be spending the day in her room. Thank god I am on my own :-). Left laundry for the hotel to do and booked a massage for the afternoon (in about half an hour) to see if I can sort my neck and shoulder out. The 12 hours on the bus have done it no favours. I met up with the group at 10 as Sally was taking us for a walking tour of the main sights. La Paz is a cahotic city. The traffic is terrible and due to the average age of cars and trucks, you can actually breath diesel in! It's not one of its endearing qualities. It is however very diverse and picturesque. You can have one side of the road with perfectly maintained colonial homes and on the opposite side, beautiful colonial architecture in a complete state of disrepair. We walked through the witch market where together with various trinckets and clothing, you can buy magic potions ready made or a dried Llama fetus for good luck. We also stopped for a coffee break in a very unique bar full of memorabilia. We saw a more modern square where the main road cuts through and there's a new market and then the main square, where the parliament, cathedral and president's offices are (although La Paz is not actually the capital of Bolivia). On the way back we stopped for lunch in an 100% Naturally place and ate fairly healthy food for once. I then made it back to the hotel to relax a bit before the lady for the massage arrives. Lets hope she sorts me out. Tonight we are venturing out of the hotel for dinner in a typical bolivian restaurant with live music. It should be fun.
