Rush and Luge - Extreme Adventures
After the Potosi mining adventure we hopped on a bus to Uyuni. Now I have been moaning about the rubbish public transport since I started writing about Peru and Bolivia but this litterally was the worst bus journey EVER!! The whole 6 or 7 hours (overnight) the on board entertainment consisted of a tape cassette FULL volume with the most annoying tin band playing the same song over and over and to make it worse the tape sounded like it was slowly being eaten by the machine. Every time it stopped for a few seconds I prayed it was the last song but NO it never ended!! Anyway we were in Uyuni to start the salt flats tour which made up for the awfull journey by being one of the most amazing and beautiful places in the world. The salts flats tour was a three day journey in a 4x4 with 7 other people a driver and a cook and was incredable. The landscape was unbelievble and most of the time it looked like you were driving over another planet. The first day we saw the salt flats which are vast white desserts litterally made of salt, then into the mountains, volcanos and moon style creators the next day, followed by green lakes with hundreds of flamingo's and vast red desserts. The whole experience was breath taking and I am sure I will bore you all with about 1000 photo's of it when we get back. On the other hand the great thing about the tour was the fantastic bunch of people we had on it, 5 Aussies, us 2 English our crazy driver Serge and Mama Comida the cook (who left her mark on all of us at some point or another, food not so good) The drinkng started at lunch time on the first day and pretty much lasted the whole tour with lots of karyoke style singing as we flew through the landscape in our clapped out 4x4 (which blew tyres constantly)! Loved it!
