Wow! I survived rafting and it has been an amazing few days. Rafting was absolutely amazing (Photo included of me falling off) The water was the highest it's been for a while due to the rainfall and it was amazing. Probably wasn't my wisest idea to raft as my insurance company wouldn't insure me for grade 5 rapids due to the risk but sometimes I think you need to take risk. Some say it's not sensible but if I was sensible then I woulld of missed off with one of the best days I think I have ever had.
It was amazing. Such an adrenalin rush. I fell off alot and that really is scary. The water is intense and I am pretty bruised and scraped but so worth it. Our instructor was so funny - Telling ridiculous jokes and making everything so fun even if he did like to pick us up by out lifejackets and chuck us back in the rapids.
Naturally everyone fell off so much and you hope you get rushed out of the river for a kayak to come rescure you. Most of the time that is the case but I did have a scary experience. In fact, I did think that was the end of me. I fell off the raft when it tipped and got stuck in an eddie line meaning the rapid was not pushing me along but pulling me down in one place. My lifejacket was not strong enough for that and I spent alot of time under the water that my body was forcing me to breath even with no air. In fact, i'm surprised there is any water left in the Nile considering the amount I swallowed. It was scary and so many people were out on the water, the instructors didn't realise I was stuck.
Anyway, some paddlers followed the rafts around the rapids (I would never hit those rapids in a tiny boat). Clearly these are very skilled people and thankfully one came to rescue me! My night in shining armour. hahaha. Well as soon as he came near me I was in such a panic and really running out of air I lunged onto the back of his boat so fast. I think he was pretty shocked. I threw my paddle at him and I have to say I have never been so happy to be rescued. I did say thankyou though!
After the absolutely manic day we headed back to the campsite. We spent the rest of the evening relaxing and I decided to use the extremly slow computer to let people know I survived. Whilst using them, Tom appeared. He is the guy that rescued me. I didn't realise we were on the same camp site. I thanked him again and had a little chat. He tried to use the computer next to me. I told him it wasn't working but he persisted and kept electrocuting himself. Admittedly watching him shock himself was quite funny. I was glad I got to say thankyou to him. He invited me for a drink but I was so tired I said I wasn't sure
Anyway, ended up going for a drink. Well, a fanta. I was planning on staying for only a little while but we ended up talking pretty much all night. I got sympathy hugs as the Malaria tablets I am taking seem to be having some pretty nasty side effects. Mainly, photophobia. My skin is reacting to the boiling sun and even factor 100 suncream is not working. So I look a serious lobster and it's pretty painful.
We sat by the falls and it was pretty beautiful. The dog I am quite concerned was rabid chilled with us for hours until he got fed up of us and quite literally pestered us until we went to my tent. (Ahem)
