Yesterday, a group of us went volunteering with a charity called Soft Power. They run a few small schools and a clinic for the extremely poor. You definitely have to experience the poverty first hand to truly understand. I've seen the adverts and i've seen the pictures in text books at school but nothing is quite as hard hitting as seeing these homes. They are falling down, made of rotting wood, dried leaves from drought and just something you can never imagine. ...

So without meaning to, I seem to have landed on a cross between an East Africa 18-30 holiday and Channel 4's Coach Trip. There are a few variances; (a) there are no evictions (b) it's more 18-35 (c) there haven't been any bad party games (yet) (d) there are too many daily truck chores and (e) a low quotient of Chavs (so far) but this is where the differences stop The campsite in Jinja was in a truly stunning setting against a backdrop of the wild white water...
