Babi guling is a whole pig stuffed with a spice mix of turmeric, lemongrass, kefir, chilli and probably some special home secrets. It was slowly hand cranked, roasted over coals of coconut shells and basted with coconut milk for 6 hours. Imagine beginning this pig feast in the middle of the night so that the pig is ready to be delivered to the store by 10am! The meat is tender and succulent. The crispy skin is caramelized goodness! A meal is served with soup, rice, crackling, intestines, and more spices. We found a local place for $9 for 2 full meals, drinks, large bottle of water and extra pork cracklings! Mouth-watering! In Ubud, Ibu Oka was packed at lunch. Once they run out, they are done for the day.
Bakso is an Indonesian meatball or meat paste. John poorly negotiated a bowl of noodles and bakso for $3 until I came around and offered $1. We settled on $1.50.
