Tonight we'll be up on Titirangi Hill to welcome in New Years 2015! If we were younger, we would watch the sunrise and greet the new year as the light breaks through the horizonbut fireworks at midnight is fine with us. Bed awaits soon after.

We're off again! This time, we journey to the Southern Hemisphere ... Australia. We've been approved to participate in a year long teacher exchange program. Nancy will be teaching Grade 3 / 4 while John will be cooking, cleaning, and grocery shopping at the nearby markets so that a hot meal will be on the table for his exhausted wife. LOL. Maybe not. In reality, we really have no idea what adventures lay ahead but we are excited! Join us vicariously as you read our daily post…

Oh nancy! What's wrong with us? I had that exact same day today. I soooooo wanted to be home in my own house, teaching my own kids. I miss my dog so much right now. I miss my family and friends. I had meltdown at school today. Thankfully Lisa, one of my buddies was there and she was fantastic. Chin up, I know exactly how you feel. It's not that we're not thankful for this opportunity but I think we've reached a saturation point of complete overload. I love my school, it's staff and new friends. However, we hit the ground running in this profession. Add in a new school, curriculum, oh yes and living in a new country, away from everything familiar, A run and glass of wine did the trick for me, responding to a few emails from home, watching Friends and Downton Abbey - all things familiar settled me down. Hang in there and remember to take time for just you and John! Thanks for sharing...it made me feel better knowing that what I felt was normal.

So, this may sound really dumb, but I actually got bit by one of those things at about 2:00am this morning. I screamed myself awake and lay in bed for several minutes with a throbbing finger. The initial pain -- very REAL pain in spite of the imaginary bite -- and then the trauma of realizing that an imaginary event could cause actual physical discomfort was enough to keep me from getting back to sleep for a very long time.

Nancy, I'm so impressed you did it! Good for you to embrace the opportunity offered--and how heartwarming that the crew wanted so much for you to have a successful dive! Happy New Year to you and John!

Diving is like entering a new world. Relaxing is the key and I am so glad you had this experience. Enjoy the journey. I was in Manitoba -50 with the wind chill!!! Wish I was there down under.
