Arrived in Singapore on new years eve and met up with Sally's mum, dad, sister and young Christopher. Spent Hogmanay on the banks of the river eating some gorgeous chilli crab, enjoying a few tipples and watching the amazing fireworks display over the marina.
Steve and Marion treated us to some luxury accommodation and showed us all the sights as they have lived here previously. Went to visit the botanic gardens, bird park and ate some really nice food (dont ask about my prawns).
I bought a proper bling Rolex watch from an old guy who had tried to sell waches and sun glasses to Steve only 25 years earlier. Its definately real, he assured me it was, and was even nice enough to give me a discount: bargain at 15 quid!! Its a step up from my Casio calculator watch (but not as cool in my opinion).
Everything youve heard about singapore is true - there is no chewing gum, drug dealers get the death penalty and it is in fact the cleanest city in the world, and by a long way. The locals seem to do nothing but shop in massive malls and buy really expensive stuff (luckily I had my Rolex so I fitted in no problem). Sally bought herself a Mac book pro (mum, thats a nice shiny laptop computer) and I bought myself a new pair of shorts. Easy to see who has a job lined up anyway!
Entertainment for the rest of the 5 day stay was provided by Chris in his life jacket in the swimming pool!
So that was the end of the Asian part of our adventure, its been really good but for now its onwards to Australia!!
